The Ministry of Industry, Investment, and Commerce will spearhead a government feasibility study to determine whether mined-out bauxite lands are suitable for the wide-scale planting of bamboo, and the growing of edible bamboo shoots.

Officials of the Government and the Organization of American States (OAS), on Tuesday, August 4, signed an agreement for $15 million (US$130,000) in grant funding by the OAS, for the Peckham Bamboo Pre-processing Project, in North West Clarendon.

The country is to ship its second major supply of organic bamboo charcoal to the US this weekend, a 24,000-lb venture which is to rake in some $5 Million, according to the Ministry of Industry, Investment, and Commerce.
