Opening Ceremony of the 2017 Regional Starch Conference

Under the theme, “Indigenous Caribbean Starch Products: Back to the Future” the 2-day conference is being staged under the auspices of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The Bureau of Standards Jamaica hosts the ISO/Technical Committee 93 which examines starch including derivatives and by-products; the committee is responsible for the development of standards for all starch types including modified starch.

Local and regional produce such as sweet potato, cassava, breadfruit, yam are significant sources of starch.
