Working Group – Review of JS 1 Part 17 Jamaican Standard Specification for the labelling of commodities Part 17: The precautionary labelling of hazardous industrial chemicals

Overview of Scope of Work

The scope of the Committee relates to the development, revision or adoption of standards relating to Labelling (General).  The Committee’s current workplan included the revision/development of:

  1. JS 1: Part 17 Jamaican Standard Specification for The labelling of commodities Part 17: The precautionary labelling of hazardous industrial chemical - Projected completion date - August 2022
  2. JS 1: Part 15 Jamaican Standard Specification for the labelling of commodities Part 15: Labelling of household chemicals – Projected completion date - August 2022
  3. JS 1: Part 26 Jamaican Specification for The labelling of commodities Part 26: Labelling of tissue products and wipes - Projected completion date - August 2022

 

Achievements to date

The Committee has promulgated the JS 1 series of labelling standards for commodities to include the very popular JS 1 Part 1: 1992 Jamaican Standard Specification for the Labelling of commodities Part 1: General principles and JS 1 Part 20: 1988 Jamaican Standard Specification for the Labelling of commodities Part 20: Labelling of pre-packaged goods, among others such as the .  Of note, the JS 1 Part 1 and JS 1 Part 20 have been revised and published below:

  1. JS 349: 2020 Jamaican Standard Specification for Labelling of goods — Part 1: General requirements – Published May 2020
  2. JS 350: 2020 Jamaican Standard Specification for the Labelling of goods—: Specific requirements for prepackaged goods – Published May 2020

 

Summary

Mrs. Paulette Bailey currently serves as the Technical Secretary for the Labelling Technical Committee.

Mr. Rowe currently serves as the CAC representative on the BSJ’s Labelling and Tissue Products Technical Committees.  A former Banker and currently Director, Western Region with the Consumer Affairs Commission, Mr. Rowe has committed himself to Public Service and the empowerment of others. Mr. Rowe is currently Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jamaica Customer Service Association (JaCSA). Mr. Rowe has served Kiwanis with distinction since joining the Kiwanis Club of Kingston in 2007. In 2015 he was elected President of the Kiwanis Club of Barbican, the Kiwanis 100th Anniversary Club which he chartered. He was recently awarded the Godfrey Dyer medallion for outstanding service to Kiwanis.
