The Bureau of Standards Jamaica invites applications to fill the following positions: 

Information Communications Technology Analyst

Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible for the design, implementation, configuration and maintenance of Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) approved Computerized Information system in order to support the core activities of promoting competitiveness of Jamaican producers, facilitating trade and protecting customers. The Analyst will also design, customize, maintains and implement systems and software applications to computers and servers, establishes network connectivity throughout the Local Area Network (LAN); facilitates the integrity of the infrastructure, including the temperature, distance, location and the general environment where the mentioned peripherals are.

Core Functions:

  • Manages the BSJ’s datacenters

  • Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems

  • Make recommendations for future upgrades

  • Manage network and system security

  • Maintain an information security risk register and assist with internal and external audits relating to information security

  • Maintain integrity of the network, server deployment, and security

  • Monitor and respond to 'phishing' emails and 'pharming' activity

  • Ensure the design of Information Communication Technology (ICT) systems to allow all components to work together

  • Ensure that network connectivity throughout the company’s LAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations

  • Troubleshoot problems reported by users and analyze and isolate issues

  • Ensure delivery of cyber security awareness training for colleagues

  • Provide advice and guidance to staff on issues such as spam and unwanted or malicious emails.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.

  • Ability to plan, create, program and manage complex statistical computer databases.

  • Knowledge of data security and disaster recovery systems and procedures.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

  • Knowledge of a range of network systems, protocols, and applications.

  • Knowledge and understanding of LAN administration in a secure environment.

  • Ability to determine computer problems and to coordinate hardware and/or software solutions.

  • Knowledge of systems security protocol, policies, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of data management techniques.

  • Knowledge of a broad range of relevant multi-user computer systems, applications, and/or equipment.

  • Knowledge of systems growth analysis and capacity planning processes and techniques.

  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.

  • Knowledge of cost analysis and budgeting procedures.

  • Ability to develop plans, implement systems, design tests, and troubleshoot system software.

  • Knowledge of and competency in the use of a variety of programming languages.

  • Knowledge of computer site licensure regulations and requirements.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Ability to lead assigned staff including prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.

 

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science

  • Specialized training in use of Computer Applications to include Apple OS X, iOS and Microsoft Operating Systems and networking etc.

  • Fortinet Certification/Advanced training certification

  • ITIL certification would be an advantage

  • Information Systems Security Training Certification


    ​Information Communication Technology Officer

 

Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Computerized Information system of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) in order to support the core activities of promoting competitiveness of Jamaican producers, facilitating trade and protecting customers. The Officer will also design, customize, maintains and install current database and software applications to computers and servers, develop Software, establish point to point connectivity throughout the Local Area Network (LAN); facilitate the integrity of the infrastructure, including the temperature, distance, location and the general environment where the mentioned peripherals are.

 

Core Functions:

  • Assists with systems development

  • Evaluates user request for new or modified programmes

  • Conducts research on ways to develop programmes that meet user requirements.

  • Converts project specifications, using flowcharts and diagrams, into sequence of detailed instructions and logical steps for coding into language the computer understands, applying knowledge of computer programming techniques and computer languages.

  • Analyzes, reviews, and alters programme to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements.

  • Documents programmes development, logic, coding, and corrections.

  • Document system specification for users to describe installation and operating procedures.

  • Assists users to solve operating problems.

  • Assists with training users to use programmes.

  • Assists with providing technical assistance to programme users.

  • Assists with performance monitoring of programme after implementation.

  • Training in Process Model development and User Manual Creation
