The Chemistry Branch provides chemical testing and calibration services for a wide range of items to ensure conformance with established standards. Industries served include food processing, petroleum production, construction, pesticide and insecticide formulation, pharmaceuticals, automotive fluid production, wastewater monitoring, and other public testing requests.

The laboratory is dually accredited to ISO/IEC 17025: 2017General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories by both the JANAAC Global Accreditation and the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), demonstrating its commitment to international quality and technical excellence.

Our Testing Units

Our Food Laboratory ensures that foods conform to national and international standards for local and export markets, respectively. The capabilities of this laboratory also includes the testing of foods like rice, sauces, seasonings, syrups and juices. Equipment used in our laboratory include: pH meter, moisture meter, refractometer and balance. Tests in the Food Laboratory form a major part of the routine regulatory function of this unit. Calibration of brix refractometers and salinity meters are done in this laboratory while the traceability of mass, brix and refractive index are also provided.

Function:

  • The Chemistry Branch test for nutrient parameters include protein, fats, carbohydrates, moisture, ash, sugars, vitamins omega 3&6 and minerals.

Functions:

  • Verify that products are within acceptable limits of label claim and safe for intended use
  • Determines quality parameters in pharmaceutical preparations, pesticide formulations, fuel, alcoholic beverages and foods among other consumer products.

These routine tests are done for quality assurance purposes to confirm label claims on existing and new products.

Functions:

  •  Ensures that test items are within acceptable limits of label claim and conform to any relevant standard
  • Traceability to international standards is provided for some services using Certified Reference Materials from International Metrology Institutes
  •  The analysis of cement, steel, fertilizer, soil, limestone, engine coolant, brake fluid, detergent, drinking water and wastewater are other routine tests done. These tests are normally conducted to provide third party confirmation for local quality assurance laboratories and monitor the quality of import products.
