Last Modified: 15 Oct, 21

Cannabis Technical Committee

The Cannabis Technical Committee was established in November 2018 to address the need for quality standards to establish best practice within Jamaica’s developing medical cannabis industry. Throughout 2019, the technical committee was fully engaged in the development of the code of practices for cultivation and the processing and handling of Cannabis. In an effort address the urgent need for these standards, the committee operated as two working group namely:

  1. Laboratory and Processing Working Group
  2. Cultivation Working Group

Through the effective management of this working group, the committee was able to conclude the development of two (2) standards for the cannabis industry in less than a year. In July 2020, the committee was able to publish and launch a total of seven (7) for the cannabis industry and was named the Technical Committee of the Year 2019/2020.

Currently, the committee is focus on developing a standard to establish limits for contaminant in cannabis product to ensure the safety of all consumers.

The committee is comprised of industry personnel, regulators and academia to ensure all interest groups are represented. The committee is led by Mr. Rory Liu (Chair), Dr. Machel Emanuel (Vice-Chair) and Mr. Greg Douglas (Technical Secretary).
