The National Water Quality Technical Committee

Last Modified: 04 Oct, 22

Technical Committee Name: The National Water Quality Technical Committee

# Of Members: 28

Introduction:

At the request of the Water Resources Authority of Jamaica (WRA) The BSJ was called to establish the National Water Quality Technical Committee to develop a national standard describing the requirements for selected parameters for ambient natural water quality in freshwater and sea water in and around Jamaica with minimal impact from anthropogenic activity.

The ambient water quality standards are intended to serve as a reference standard for water quality, so as to provide an indication of the expected water quality from a water source free from any impacts from pollution, contamination, mineralization or other influence on the expected water quality for various usages.

Scope of work:

The scope of the National Water Quality Technical Committee entails:

a) Review and revise the existing Jamaican standards for applicability as outlined in the workplan (section 6.3)

b) Developing/adopting/adapting relevant CARICOM Regional standards as outlined in the workplan (section 6.3)

c) Development of relevant Jamaican standards as outlined in the workplan (section 6.3)

d) Serve as a technical advice team for related standardization activities and other related matters, (e.g. from regional or international sources) specific to the sector, that may arise during the tenure of the Committee.

Ms. Marjorie Beazer is the Founder & Executive Director of the LEAD Center for Public policy…(PAJS).

She describes herself as never one to sit on her laurels; Ms Beazer is now poised to launch into a new and exciting venture that takes her back to her roots - agriculture!  Yes, she's harkening back to her grandmother's coal burning, animal raising, and food growing days, as she tosses her hat into the ring (or should we say sowing her seeds?!) and bends her back to the plough as she becomes a serious backyard agriculturist if you please!  Getting her hands dirty and breaking a nail or two?  No problem! Early hours and arm wrestling weeds and aphids?  No problem?  Excited about the challenges and rewards ahead? But of course, that is NOT a problem, man!. Turning this new leaf means not only will she continue her tireless work as a sustainable development, social justice, and psychosocial health & wellness advocate, leader and consultant, but now she'll be adding the richly healthful, multidisciplinary aspect of agriculture to the mix - what a wonderful mix that will be!
